Mission Statement: AMWA membership is comprised of physicians, residents, medical students, and health care professionals. AMWA is the only multispecialty organization dedicated to advancing women in medicine and improving women's health. AMWA empowers women to lead in improving health for all within a model that reflects the unique perspective of women. AMWA is an organization, which functions at the local, national, and international level to advance women in medicine and improve women's health. We achieve this by providing and developing leadership, advocacy, education, expertise, mentoring, and strategic alliances.

Cultivating Compassion in Medicine with Dr. Laura Vater

Thursday 9/30 at 12pm in Classroom 1

Showing compassion is not only essential for the patients we serve, it is also protective for clinicians. In this talk, Dr. Vater (@doclauraveter) will guide us to learn why compassion matters, build skills to communicate with intention and clarity, discuss the social determinants of health and how these factors lead to health disparities, and understand how social justice and humanism in medicine are intertwined.

 

Women of Touro Series

AMWA will be hosting female faculty to hear about their journeys into healthcare and medical education, the stigma and biases they’ve faced, and how they’ve overcome adversity! 

 

Mentorship Program

AMWA is working with Binghamton’s premed AMWA chapter to provide mentorship and TOUCH hours! Members will have the opportunity to be paired with undergrad mentee(s) and provide feedback and guidance. We will also host mentorship panels and Q&A sessions. 

 

Community Service with Fearless!

We will be working closely with Fearless! A local safe home. The mission of Fearless! Hudson Valley, Inc. (formerly known as Safe Homes of Orange County) is to build an informed, just, and accountable society so all people can experience supportive and safe relationships free from abuse, exploitation, and oppression.  

 

Speed Mentorship Event

AMWA’s Speed Mentorship Event is going virtual once again! Join us to hear alumni  talk about their journeys into medicine, their specialties, and so much more. Please dress professionally and come prepared with questions. You will be able to rotate through breakout rooms with designated times to switch. List of represented specialities coming soon!
